Once Saved Always Saved ?
1 Peter 3:15 “be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you”
Speak about plan A and plan B, the law being plan A, and grace being plan B,
There has only been one man who was justified by the law plan A, and that was Jesus, who never sinned.
Works does not save you.
Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Gal 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? (The law)
Paul is saying that you are a fool, if you think that you start by grace plan B and then you keep it by doing plan A the law.
Gal 3:10-11 But those who depend on the law to make them right with God are under his curse, for the Scriptures say, "Cursed is everyone who does not observe and obey all the commands that are written in God's Book of the Law." So it is clear that no one can be made right with God by trying to keep the law. For the Scriptures say, "It is through faith that a righteous person has life."
Gal 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
Those of you who want to believe your saved by the law, then grace isn’t for you.
We die and he dies only once
In the justice symptom you can’t be judged twice for the same crime, its call double jeopardy.
Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
We all died when Adam and Eve sinned.
Apostate People
Apostate – Is a person who has head knowledge, and even may do some of the things that Christians do, but it doesn’t last, sooner or later he’s back into his own self, he has never totally given the Lord his heart.
1 John 2:19 They (many anti-christs) went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
Judas Iscariot is the perfect example? He never did call Jesus “Lord” he always called him teacher.
Paul is speaking to lost people here.
2 Tim 2:10-17
10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
The verse above this one, says Paul is enduring being in jail, because in Acts 16:22-31 the guards were being saved,
The elect’s is referring to 2Peter 3:9 the Lord says “he is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance”.
He is not speaking about believers here, because they had not yet obtain salvation yet.
11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
In Rom 6:4 “we are buried with him by baptism into death,” “so we also should walk in newness of life”
12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
If we endure persecution and hostility without being killed, that is evidence that we really belong to him, so also shall we reign with him.
In 2 John 9 it says “anyone who leaves the word, is not of God, and never did belong to him, cause if they were his, they would endure.
Matt 10:32-33
32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
Remember what John 6:64-66 Jesus said “some of you disciples will not believe, that was the Christ, no man can follow me unless they are draw by the Holy Spirit” and after he said that many of them went back and walked with him no more.
13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
Even for those who want believe, the Lord is still faithful on who he is, he still offers salvation till they reject him the final time, and he knows when that is.
14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
In verse 10 these people have not receive yet, and he’s reminding them.
If you die with Christ you shall also live with him.
If you suffer, then you shall reign with him.
If you haven’t receive him, he will wait.
If you deny him, he also deny you.
And tell the ones who are giving false teaching they will be accountable to the Lord, because all they do is confuse the hearers.
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (you are not ashamed when the Lord examines your work, your walk.)
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. (stay clear from foolish discussions, it will just lead you further away from God)
17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: (it’s like cancer)of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
Did you notice that these sinners were called by name, some people believe that it’s wrong to point people out, but the word of God tells who the hypocrites are?
John 6:64 But there are some of you (disciples) that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.
Vs 66 From that time many of his disciples (students) went back, and walked no more with him. Remember Judas Iscariot is the perfect example? He never did call Jesus “Lord” he always called him teacher.
Scriptures that sound like you can lose your salvation.
1 Cor 3:9-17
9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
2 Peter 2:20-22 this chapter is about false teachers, it is not for Christians.
20 For if after they (lost people) have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge (apostates) of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, (the devil tempts them back to their old ways again) the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
Matt 12:43-45 backs this up “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow (pig) that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
Prov 26:11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
you can wash a pig, but he’s still a pig on the inside, the Lord said that we are new creatures
2 Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Dogs and pigs in the bible are unclean animals, it didn’t use lamb here
1 Cor 9:24-26
24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? (rewards, the verses above this, its speaking about making a brother stumble, for bringing someone to the Lord,) So run, that ye may obtain.
25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. (they must deny themselves of many things) Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. (crown or reward here on earth don’t last, but when the Lord gives you this crown it’s forever.)
26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, (we fight to win battles in life) not as one that beateth the air: (not like boxer who is shadow boxing)
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: (Being totally obedient to God) lest that by any means, (unless I do this) when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. (people will not listen to you, as a result you will be losing rewards, not your salvation)
Some preachers say that all of book of Romans is for Christians, and they will use 8:13 as if were speaking to Christians but it’s not.
Rom 8:13 For if ye (lost people) live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
These verses will show who is “ye” in verse 13
Rom 7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
Paul is saying that before we became Christians we were like this,
Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, (what is “in Christ Jesus” well he answer it in the next statement) who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (non-christians)
Rom 9:8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
Matt 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
Col 1:22-23
22 In the body of his flesh through death, (speaking about Jesus) to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
23 If ye (apostates) continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, (it didn’t say that you have received) and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
1 John 2:19 They (apostates) went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
Heb 10:26-29 chapters 8,9,and 10 speak about Jesus dying once on the cross.
26 For if we sin willfully (blasphemy) after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, (apostate people who are rejecting the Lord there is no other way to get rid of your sins, but by this one sacrifice) there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, (vs 10 says Jesus offer his body once and for all, vs 18 “When sin is forgiven, there is no more reason for sacrifice to take place again) (mass is heresy, it opposes the word of God)
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. ( look forward to Gods anger, at his warth)
28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: (meaning you know what you were doing when you sin, it wasn’t out of ignores, and you were stoned to death for some of them, back then)
29 Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained (out-raged) the Holy Spirit who brings God's mercy to us.
New Living Translation
For these apostate people, being stoned to death is nothing, compare to what is coming.
Do we have a license to sin?
Rom 3:5-8 "But," some might say, "our sinfulness serves a good purpose, for it helps people see how righteous God is. Isn't it unfair, then, for him to punish us?" (This is merely a human point of view.) 6 Of course not! If God were not entirely fair, how would he be qualified to judge the world? 7 "But," someone might still argue, "how can God condemn me as a sinner if my dishonesty highlights his truthfulness and brings him more glory?" 8 And some people even slander us by claiming that we say, "The more we sin, the better it is!" Those who say such things deserve to be condemned.
Rom 6:1-4 Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? 2 Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? 3 Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? 4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.
Backslider – Is a Christian, but drifts back into the world,
1 Tim 5:19-20 Do not listen to an accusation against an elder unless it is confirmed by two or three witnesses. 20 Those who sin should be reprimanded in front of the whole church; this will serve as a strong warning to others.
1 Cor 5:9-13
9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
Paul said you can’t help mixing yourselves with lost people, because they’re all around us.
11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. He is saying, but you can keep yourselves from a backslider who is doing these things, he said not to even eat with them.
12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? (people who are lost, without Jesus) do not ye judge them that are within? (don’t we judge those who are Christians, Matt 7:1-4 bean in your eye.)
13 But them that are without God judgeth. (The Lord will judge the lost people)Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person. (the backslider)
Heb 5:11-14
11 There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don't seem to listen. 12 You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God's word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. 13 For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn't know how to do what is right. 14 Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.
These are backsliding Christians, if your not growing than your backsliding, and it says their spiritual,
And the Lord has never told a lost person to teach the bible.
Then in Heb 6 which it continues from chapter 5 it’s addresses to backsliders.
Heb 6:1-12
1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
3 And this will we do, if God permit.
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
(lets move forward, you’ve already know how to be saved)
6 If they shall fall away, (side track) to renew them again unto repentance; (vs 1 you don’t need to be saved again) seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. (you’re showing people that he was unable to keep you the first time)
7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
(for when you are growing you receive blessing from God)
8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh (1Pet 4:18) unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
1 Peter 4:18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. (what follows salvation, works, but works don’t save you)
10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
12 That ye be not slothful, (Their not bring forth good fruit vs 7 they are not going to have rewards in heaven) but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. (Those who are walking with the Lord)
Who does the saving?
Eph 2:8-10
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Vs 8 that’s a pretty clear verse, you don’t save yourselves.
Vs 9 if we keep ourselves saved, then who is doing the saving, if it’s us than we can boast about it, how good we are?
Vs 10 now we will do good works, because we are Christians, but that’s not what saves us.
Mark 10:23-27
23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly (hard) shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. (they were astonished, because this is what they had learn) But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! (people who are well off, think they’re right with God because tithe, they believe that if you don’t have you’re a failure, look at John the Baptist he had nothing, and probably had the closes walk with the Lord than anyone I know.
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. Referring back to verse 23
26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
Vs 26 Who then can be saved? Jesus answer
Vs 27 with men it is impossible, but not with God.
John 17:11-12
11 And now I am no more in the world, but these (disciples) are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; (Judas, was not saved, he never address Jesus as Lord, he always called him teacher) that the scripture might be fulfilled.
This wasn’t just for the apostles, it is for us also. John 17:20
John 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
John 18:9 That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none. (same thing he said in John 17:12)
Did any moral acts of righteousness save you? NO
Then there is no unmoral acts that can unsave you.
You weren’t going to hell for your sins (drunkenness, stealing, lying, adultery, etc.)
You were going to hell for rejecting Jesus.
Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
This seal is not the sealing of a jar; it’s the one used on their personalized stamp showing who it was from.
1 John 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; (continuing in sin) but he (Jesus) that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. (Holds him securely)
These verses are absolute, no doubt on what they mean.
John 1:12-13
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (in the Spirit)
Parents, is there a time when your child is no longer yours by blood?
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
In this verse we can say that wants people to be saved.
John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
He gave us what we needed to be saved, but then it was up to us to do what we had to do to get saved, and that is to believe on his son, then he gave us eternal life.
The Pharisees professed to be the guides or shepherds of the people. Jesus, in the close of the last chapter, had charged them with being blind, and of course of being unqualified to lead the people.
John 10:7-15
7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.
14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
John 10:24-30
24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.
25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.
26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
(They may say, no man can pluck them out of hand, but you can leave his hand, then your not his, because of vs 27, you will follow him.)
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
30 I and my Father are one.
Rom 8:31-39
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? (keep your hands off of me, my Lord is God) It is God that justifieth.
(Rom 14:4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant?)
34 Who is he that condemneth? (who can judge us) It is Christ that died, yea rather, (if anyone one has the right to judge us, its Jesus) that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. (Jesus is telling God that their with me, they have my blood)
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
(John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.)
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, (that means future sins)
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
2 Tim 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
Jude 24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless (complete, not sinless) before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
If we are to keep ourselves from falling, I might as well give up now.
My faith is not in me, it’s in Jesus.
You make the commitment, and God is the one who keeps you.
If it’s up to man to do it, then he will fall, but if it’s up to God, he will keep us.
What does the word saved mean, it means you made it. Saved from what? Hell, if your not going to hell then were are you going? There are only 2 places,
Even doe your not in heaven yet, the verses we been reading says he keep us.
Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. (future)
So if we are right with God now, (born again) then we will be saved, not maybe.
1 John 5:11-13
11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; (There is no and after this statement) that ye may know (Catholics don’t know this verse, because they believe in purcutorey) that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
1 John 3:2-3 Beloved, now (doesn’t say, if you make it) are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, (be like Jesus) even as he is pure.
2 Peter 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: (it’s like cancer)of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
23 If ye (apostates) continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, (it didn’t say that you have received) and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
John 17:20
John 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
