My Sermon Notes
Part 1- Need of a Preacher or Teacher
Acts 8:30-3130 Philip ran over and heard what he was reading and asked, "Do you understand it?"
This was a man of great authority he was the Treasurer of Ethiopia
“Ran” – that’s how we should be
We all should have that hunger
When you’re a baby, you’re taught, by your parents what’s right and wrong, and then later you follow your friends, but as you become an adult you make your own decisions on how you want to live, from what you have learn in life.
But when you decide to live for the Lord, you start leaning all over again, but this time by the Bible, the word of God.
Rom 10:14
But how shall they ask him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?
Part two- Qualifications1 Tim 3:1-7
1 This is a true saying, if a man (A) desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
Now there are Men in the bible who were called by God to do a ministry like Noah, Moses, and in Mk 1: 20 he called James and John, Acts 13 : 2 Barnabas and Saul
My bible teacher as example
Rom 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
But the word here says desire (he says it’s a good desire)
Being a preacher is not a popular position, if your speaking the word of God, which it will offend us many times, because we’re not prefect, but if your speaking for the people so not to hurt their feeling, then people will like you.
Luke 4:24
And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.
They are different kinds of prophets, so tell the future, but here it means – Pastors, and men with Ministries.
Luke 4:28-30
28 When they heard this, the people in the synagogue were furious. 29 Jumping up, they mobbed him and forced him to the edge of the hill on which the town was built. They intended to push him over the cliff, 30 but he passed right through the crowd and went on his way.
blameless- not spoken against, now you have watch it out there, because the devil will bring things against you that are not true, so before you make judgement on someone make sure you know all the facts.
The husband of one wife – some religious believe in no wives, then some believe you can’t be a divorces, then there the one that believe you can have many wives. I believe exactly what it says, one wife.
vigilant- showing self restraint, able to control himself, doesn’t lose his temper.
Sober – not a drunk or drugs
Of good behavior – when he is out in public, not person who makes a scene.
Given to hospitality - He’s always ready to open his home.
apt to teach- capable of teaching the word of God
1Thes 2:4
For we speak as messengers from God, trusted by him to tell the truth; we change his message not one bit to suit the taste of those who hear it; for we serve God alone, who examines our hearts' deepest thoughts.
1 Cor 9:14
Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.
1 Cor 9:18-19
18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
A man who goes to a certain colleges of whatever religion, he can only preach or teach what they believe.
We need to trust in the Spirit to use our mouth, not college education,
1 Cor 1:17
For Christ didn't send me to baptize, but to preach the Gospel; and even my preaching sounds poor, for I do not fill my sermons with profound words and high sounding ideas, for fear of diluting the mighty power there is in the simple message of the cross of Christ.
Eph 3:7-8
7 By God's grace and mighty power, I have been given the privilege of serving him by spreading this Good News.
8 Though I am the least deserving of all God's people, he graciously gave me the privilege of telling the Gentiles about the endless treasures available to them in Christ.
You know people think that you have to be some well educated good person to be able to preach.
We have John the baptism who live in the wilderness and was poor
Paul who was one of the worst sinners, because he kill Christians
Do you think the Church would approve of men like this?
Jesus was just a carpenter; today people won’t listen to him,
Because he didn’t have Pastor in front of his name, or have letters after it,
Gal 1:10-12
10 Obviously, I'm not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ's servant.
11 Dear brothers and sisters, I want you to understand that the gospel message I preach is not based on mere human reasoning. 12 I received my message from no human source, and no one taught me. Instead, I received it by direct revelation from Jesus Christ.
(my teaching comes from the Word of God, that is why you are giving the scriptures to read for yourself)
so we need preachers and teachers, and then once your taught, you go out and preach to others.
2 Cor 3:1-3
1 Are we beginning to be like those false teachers of yours who must tell you all about themselves and bring long letters of recommendation with them? I think you hardly need someone's letter to tell you about us, do you? And we don't need a recommendation from you, either!
2 The only letter I need is you yourselves! By looking at the good change in your hearts, everyone can see that we have done a good work among you.
Give example of Bro. Wynn and him wanting me to go to college.
The Lord says I don’t need some College or seminaries training to be qualify to preach.
If you want to know if I’m qualify to preach or teach, than look at my life, am I using the words of God, and look at the hearts of men where I have been. I got born again when I was 25, I m now in my fifties, and the only book I read is the bible.
Striker – some one who likes to argue?
not greedy of filthy lucre – he’s not hungry for money, well that leaves out a lot of them, he’s one who like to give, the Lord gives to us so we can give to others.
Patient – not one who loses his temper or gives up on people
not a brawler – he shouldn’t like to fight
not covetous – he shouldn’t want what belongs to someone else, happy with what the Lord has given him.
One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;– he knows how to love his wife like Christ loved the Church, he doesn’t provoke his children, but leads them in the way of the Lord, he doesn’t say I’m the boss and that’s it.
(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. – Not a young Christian, give example
Jesus and John were both in their thirties before they started their preaching and it’s not the age you can start preaching, it’s how long it took them to prepare themselves to preach.
Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. – people who know him outside the Church, speak good of him, can see that he is different, he doesn’t put himself in a place were the devil can make lies about him, like ministry to women along.
Part 3 – The Way We Preach or Teach
Exod 4:10-11
I understand Moses here,
So we have Moses who is a slow speaker
Don’t think just because a man is a great speaker he is from God?
1 Cor 2:4
And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: (we don’t need to be taught how to speak, when to get loud, The Lord gives us the ability with power)
So we qualify men by our earthly eyes instead of our spiritual eyes, The world says we need men who are eloquent speakers, and have college degrees so they can have enticing words. If your just a religious person than this is OK for you. But if you’re a born again believer you want God’s words by Godly men filled with the Spirit.
Finish
1 Cor 9:18-19
18 Under this circumstance, what is my pay? It is the special joy I get from preaching the Good News without expense to anyone, never demanding my rights. (taking advantage of people)
19 And this has a real advantage: I am not bound to obey anyone just because he pays my salary; yet I have freely and happily become a servant of any and all so that I can win them to Christ.
So now you know what to look for in a preacher or teacher, use your spiritual eyes
Acts 8:30-3130 Philip ran over and heard what he was reading and asked, "Do you understand it?"
- "Of course not!" the man replied. "How can I when there is no one to instruct me?" And he begged Philip to come up into the chariot and sit with him.
This was a man of great authority he was the Treasurer of Ethiopia

We all should have that hunger

I understand Moses here,

- This doesn’t mean the man is perfect or great and without sin.
- Don’t stand or believe in something because its popular like a lot of people do
- Don’t join a Church because its big and popular because the Word of God is not popular.
- You want to be popular, did stay away from the truth of God
- It reminds me in the bible where Jesus had a lot of people following him, because he was giving (Feeding, and healing) When He came into Jerusalem for Passover, about 100,000 to 200,000 people came to meet him, Matt 21:8-9, Mark 11:8-10, Luke 19:36-38, and John 12:12-13. It says that the people spread their clothes, and branches in front of him and were shouting Hosanna in the Highest, blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. At that time it was popular to follow Jesus until-
- But in John 12:19 it says Then the Pharisees said to each other, "We've lost. Look-- the whole world has gone after him!" (TLB) so then the religious leaders started to say things bad about him, calling him the devil. Who did the people chose to believe? That praising him, turned into crucify him, and has you know the religious leaders did finally get him killed
- Being a Christian and hearing the word of God will step on your toes and that’s good if you want to grow and know the Lord, like the Ethiopia who was hungry for the word.
- But if the word of God offends you and you don’t want to be offended, then go to a Church were they preach for the people and not to the people, believe me they have many of them.
- You have a choice to make, either you want to feel religious by going to a church that has statues and men in robes, stain glass windows, and live by traditions or you want to be a Christian and live by the word of God.
1 Cor 9:18-19
18 Under this circumstance, what is my pay? It is the special joy I get from preaching the Good News without expense to anyone, never demanding my rights. (taking advantage of people)
